Woodcutting Rebalance - 24 Sep 2009

Willows, maples and magic trees all have their uses, but what of the lesser known vegetation such as the hollow trees of Mort Myre or the arctic pines of the Fremennik isles? With this week’s update, we’ve taken a closer look at the Woodcutting skill, rebalancing experience for the less popular trees and cultivating some new forms of training, but it’s not just XP rates that we’ve been analysing...

Teak and mahogany trees now also have a special log or two up their sleeves, which are worth much more than their weight in gold to the right buyer! Choking ivy has been seen clambering up the stone walls of RuneScape’s major cities and is much tougher to deal with than it looks. We’ve also tweaked arctic pine-splitting and put up some Prayer-refreshing hollow bark torches in the Haunted Woods, so get your hatchets out and your arms chopping!

Finally, the workers at the Lumber Yard are inviting high-level woodcutters to participate in 'Sawmill Training', where you can grab, slice and saw your way to greater experience. For more information on all of these changes, head over to the Woodcutting section of the Game Guide.

In other news...

Hobgoblins were starting to feel a bit left behind in the looks stakes compared to their Bandosian brothers, so we've given them a graphical rework.

We've removed the doors to Edgeville's furnace to make it easier to use, but moved the furnace two squares further from the bank to maintain the balance. You will still need to have completed the necessary Varrock Achievement Diary tasks in order to use the furnace.

You might notice a small new feature has been added to the Friends List (the ability to move the line separating players’ names and online status). This feature is associated with the Display Names update, which we’re hoping to release later this year.

I believe some of the less used logs needed balancing but releasing ivy has made wc way to easy. They should concentrate on releasing better training options for harder, more time consuming skills. For example Farming

I really don't care what happens unless it means something . I mean like making the game more fun . JAGEX shouldnt have changed the way the weapons looks , that is the only problem i have with rs right now.

If you haven't noticed most skills take forever. Runescape is expanding at warp speed .It is obvious to me that speeding skills to 99 will free your time to try something new, something fun like Quests, diaries, mini games, get a fire cape, make money. It is so obvious that rich player buy there lvls rather then mine runite, they buy.Need coal they buy.Nead runes they buy. I believe runescape is trying hard to help u get that skill done faster, because alot is still to come. It somewhat makes the playing field a little more even. Do u like the idea that some wealthy guilds are running the G.E. they are! Want to be a high skilled person to make great money,Jagex wants you to. 5 years is 2 long to get great skills they know that,I know that. Were you there when they were dropping chistmas crackers,i wasnt. Holloween masks.santa's and other rares. The answer is probably no.muli Billioneers to day they control with there influence major money making endevors. I believe any skill Jagex has sped up increases your chances to do great things in the game. so stop your winning and and start being thankful. Let the Richest complain. Runescape was built and is being bettered for your enjoyment. So go out and frecken enjoy the game.

i agree woodcutting wasnt unbalanced , they really should do something bout firemaking (its kinda useless atm) and the unbalanced combat triangle.

formfiller @ 25 Sep 2009 06:48 am
it would take a good idea but a total remake of firemakeing would be nice

so far its only real use is in quests
